Family Reunion Coming Up

Just as summer starts fading (or not), we are finally preparing our summer vacation. We did it on purpose, to wait for Labor Day to leave, first of all to avoid the crowds, but C. is convinced that vacationers will have left the sites we intend to visit by the end of the weekend, and secondly in hope that temperatures will have dropped a bit, so they won't be at their highest anymore when we arrive. We will by passing by "mor"'s to spend a couple of nights before we begin our road trip. All of C's siblings are going to find themselves there this weekend. In addition, C's sister-in-law's family, that is her mother, sister and nephew, have now managed to fly down to California from the ravaged Louisiana, and they will be seeking shelter with C's family for probably months to come. How strange that each time I go up to the ranch it seems that some natural disaster or other has just struck. Last time it was the fatal earthquakes of Paso Robles, and the ranch was all upside-down.

Strange to think also, that only six weeks ago, I sat myself far away from home, waiting for a hurricane that had reached degree 5 at one point ...

I'm thus going to be away for a couple of weeks. It's not really a good time to leave, but classes have not started at least, and I got the permission of the Director of Graduate Studies to be absent during Orientation Week. Just hope to catch up on everything soon, once I'm back.
