What is it that makes a Christmas? In my opinion it is:
. Darkness
. Snow (for atmosphere)
. Smell of pine, cinnamon, cloves, apples, clementines
. A clean house, smelling of polish and teak oil
. Light decorations in every street
. Mulled wine or cider and ginger cookies
. A beautiful steak on the dinner table (but whether it is pork, fowl or game doesn't make a difference to me)
. Cheesy, old Christmas ballads
. Candles everywhere
. Church bells ringing at six o'clock
. Mass echoing under dinner
. Hot chocolate on Christmas morning and a good book to read
